A new week, a new site name, and a new theme. Since it appears
that CTV is going to be doing a Friday evening 007 movie theme all summer
— they're going to be showing 11 Bond movies, starting this Friday
with Dr. No, and running until the end of August, it seems appropriate
that I have a James Bond theme week. I also have a related feature or
two planned to go along with this theme.
Song of the Week: There are a lot of great
007 theme songs, but I'm going to have to go with my favourite, which
is Paul McCartney's "Live and Let Die"
from of course the movie of the same name. It might be one of the lesser
Bond films, but as is the case with many Bond movies, the bad movies have
some the best songs. (Duran Duran's "A View to a Kill" comes
to mind from a similar situation, but that's another song for another
week.)
Links of the Week: The Random James Bond
quote generator. When you just need a random 007 quote, this
site will provide one. Alas, it doesn't say which movie a particular quote
is from. Oh well.
Fun Fact of the Week: Most people immediately
associate James Bond with Sean Connery (well, apart from the people that
are too young to remember the older 007 flicks) but it may come as a surprise
that the first choice to play Bond was Roger Moore, who was contractually
bound to his television role on The Saint, and so didn't portray
Bond until 1973 in Live and Let Die.
DVD of the Week: Unfortunately I only
own one Bond DVD, so I'm going to have to make that the DVD of the Week.
I own several of the movies on VHS, but every DVD of the week so far has
been a disc that I own, and I don't want to break that trend. So the disc
this week is The World is Not Enough. There are a few cool features
on this disc, including two audio commentaries, a music video for the
theme song, and a "making-of" documentary. It might not be one
of the best Bond films, but it is a worthy addition to your DVD collection. |
